THE 1450TH TRANSPORTATION COMPANY DISTINGUISHED ITSELF BY TRANSPORTING OVER 7.75 MILLION GALLONS OF FUEL SUSTAINING THE XVIII AIRBORNE CORPS THROUGHOUT THE OPERATIONS AND PROVIDING SUPPORT TO THE 24TH INFANTRY DIVISION (MECHANIZED) AND THE 3RD ARMORED CAVALRY REGIMENT DURING THE GROUND OFFENSIVE. THE COMPANY'S PERFORMANCE IS IN THE FINEST TRADITIONS OF MILITARY SERVICE AND REFLECTS GREAT CREDIT UPON THE UNIT AND THE UNITED STATES ARMY.

NARRATIVE - MERITORIOUS UNIT COMMENDATION 1450TH TRANSPORTATION COMPANY (MEDIUM TRUCK - PETROLEUM SUPPLY)

     THE 1450TH TRANSPORTATION COMPANY (MEDIUM TRUCK - PETROLEUM SUPPLY) DISTINGUISHED ITSELF DURING OPERATION DESERT SHIELD / DESERT STORM IN THE KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA AND IRAQ FROM 15 NOVEMBER 1990 THROUGH 20 APRIL 1991 BY EXCEPTIONALLY MERITORIOUS SERVICE. THE 1450TH TRANSPORTATION COMPANY WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR TRANSPORTING BULK PETROLEUM TO THE COMBAT FORCES OF THE XVIII AIRBORNE CORPS. THE COMPANY PERFORMED LINE HAUL MISSIONS TRANSPORTING AMMUNITION AND ALL CLASSES OF SUPPLIES. DURING DESERT SHIELD THE COMPANY WAS TASKED WITH TRANSPORTING BULK PETROLEUM TO DIRECT SUPPORT RETAIL SITES ALONG MAJOR SUPPLY ROUTES IN THE KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA. THE TRUCK PLATOONS TRANSPORTED FUEL IN THE DAMMAM AREA AND ACROSS SAUDI ARABIA ALONG THE PIPELINE ROAD AS FAR AS 450 MILES ONE WAY TO AREAS NORTH AND WEST OF KING KHALID MILITARY CITY SUPPORTING THE FIRST CAVALRY DIVISION, THE 101ST AIR ASSAULT DIVISION AND ELEMENTS OF THE XVIII AIRBORNE CORPS. THE UNIT DELIVERED IN EXCESS OF TWO MILLION GALLONS OF FUEL ACROSS 250,000 MISSION MILES. THE COMPANY SUPPORTED THE FORWARD DEPLOYMENT OF THE XVIII AIRBORNE CORPS TRANSPORTING UNIT EQUIPMENT AND GENERAL SUPPLIES FROM THE DAMMAM PORT AREA FORWARD ALONG PIPELINE ROAD NORTH AND WEST OF KING KHALID MILITARY CITY. AT THE BEGINNING OF OPERATION DESERT STORM THE UNIT RELOCATED TO LOGISTICS BASE BRAVO NEAR THE KING KHALID MILITARY CITY AND THEN IMMEDIATELY FORWARD TO ASSIST IN THE ESTABLISHMENT OF LOGISTICS BASE CHARLIE NEAR THE IRAQI BORDER. THE UNIT SUPPORTED THE BULK MOVEMENT OF FUEL TO ESTABLISH A THREE MILLION GALLON FUEL BASE TO SUSTAIN CORPS OPERATIONS. THE UNIT ALSO ASSISTED IN THE MOVEMENT OF CORPS UNITS TO THE LOGISTICS BASE. DURING THE GROUND OFFENSIVE OPERATIONS THE UNIT PROVIDED DIRECT SUPPORT TO FORWARD ELEMENTS OF THE 24TH INFANTRY DIVISION IN THE BATTLE OF BASRAH AND THE 3RD ARMOR CALVARY REGIMENT INTO IRAQ. THE TRUCKS MOVED FORWARD DURING COMBAT ACROSS MUDDY, ROUGH TERRAIN ENDURING ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS WITH THE FORWARD COMBAT UNITS PROVIDING FUEL AT A CRITICAL POINT JUST HOURS BEFORE THE BATTLE. THE COMPANY PROVIDED LINE HAUL BULK FUEL SUPPORT THROUGHOUT THE BATTLE ACROSS A 300 MILE SUPPLY ROUTE IN IRAQ. THE UNIT CONTINUED TO PROVIDE FUEL TO UNITS IN IRAQ DURING THE WITHDRAWAL OF THE XVIII AIRBORNE CORPS. THE COMPANY TRANSPORTED IN EXCESS OF FIVE MILLION GALLONS OF FUEL DURING DESERT STORM DRIVING MORE THAN 250,000 MISSION MILES. THE UNIT SUPPORTED RETROGRADE OPERATIONS TRANSPORTING FUEL, AMMUNITION AND GENERAL SUPPLIES FROM LOGISTICS BASES IN IRAQ AND SAUDI ARABIA BACK TO KING KHALID MILITARY CITY. THE COMPANY HEADQUARTERS PROVIDED NBC WARNING AND BASE SECURITY, FLEXIBLE MEAL SUPPORT, AND RESPONSIVE LOGISTICS SUPPORT FOR THE LINE PLATOONS ACROSS THE KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA AND SOUTHERN IRAQ. THE COMPANY MAINTAINED AN OPERATIONAL READINESS RATE OF 95% OR GREATER THROUGHOUT THE OPERATION BY PERFORMING DIRECT SUPPORT AND GENERAL SUPPORT LEVEL MAINTENANCE AT THE UNIT LEVEL. THE MAINTENANCE SECTION PERFORMED MAJOR REBUILDS OF TRANSFERS AND TRANSMISSIONS DESPITE HARSH FIELD CONDITIONS. THE MAINTENANCE SECTION PERFORMED EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT RECOVERY OPERATIONS IN SAUDI ARABIA AND IRAQ. BY THE END OF THE OPERATION THE UNIT HAD TRANSPORTED 7,752,000 GALLONS OF FUEL, 15,945 SHORT TONS OF ALL CLASSES OF SUPPLIES DRIVING 689,514 MISSION MILES. THE 1450TH TRANSPORTATION COMPANY DEMONSTRATED THE HIGHEST OF STANDARDS FOR COMBAT SERVICE SUPPORT UNIT PERFORMANCE AND LOGISTICS SUPPORT IN A THEATER OF OPERATIONS UNDER WARTIME CONDITIONS.

      1450TH TRANSPORTATION COMPANY (-) JEFFERSON, NORTH CAROLINA 1450TH (DET 1) LENOIR, NORTH CAROLINA MOBILIZED IN SUPPORT OF DESERT SHIELD. UNIT MOBILIZED 100% ELIGIBLE PERSONNEL AND WAS FULLY MISSION CAPABLE IN ALL AREAS.

13 OCT 90

     UNIT RELOCATED TO FORT LEE, VIRGINIA FOR DEPLOYMENT PREPARATION. UNIT PERSONNEL DEMONSTRATED TACTICAL AND TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY IN COLLECTIVE AND INDIVIDUAL TASKS. UNIT PERSONNEL ACHIEVED 99% WEAPONS QUALIFICATION, 100% NBC PROFICIENCY AND 99% PT TEST PASS RATE.

14 NOV 90

     UNIT DEPLOYED TO THE KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA AND LOCATED AT THE INTERMEDIATE STAGING BASE "CEMENT CITY". THE COMPANY BEGAN SUPPORT MISSIONS HAULING FUEL IN THE DAMMAM AREA AND TO FUEL SITES ALONG MAJOR SUPPLY ROUTES ACROSS SAUDI ARABIA. THE UNIT ASSISTED IN THE MOVEMENT OF THE XVIII AIRBORNE UNITS NORTH TO LOGISTICS BASE BRAVO IN THE VICINITY OF KING KHALID MILITARY CITY. SELECTED INDIVIDUALS SERVED AS A POSTAL DETACHMENT SORTING U.S. MAIL DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON.

     UNIT RELOCATED TO THE 540TH QUARTERMASTER OPERATIONS AREA. UNIT CONTINUED SUPPORT MISSIONS TRANSPORTING FUEL TO THE FUEL POINT AA "HORSE" IN SUPPORT OF THE 1ST CAVALRY DIVISION AND "GUARDIAN CITY" IN SUPPORT OF THE 101ST AIR ASSAULT DIVISION. THE COMPANY ASSISTED IN THE MOVEMENT OF XVIII AIRBORNE CORPS UNITS TO AREAS IN THE VICINITY OF KING KHALID MILITARY CITY.

     DURING THE PERIOD 1 DECEMBER 1990 THROUGH 15 JANUARY 1991 THE UNIT DELIVERED 2,135,165, GALLONS OF FUEL TRAVELING 255,321 MISSION MILES TO REFUELING POINTS ALONG MAJOR SUPPLY ROUTES SUPPORTING THE FORWARD DEPLOYMENT OF ALLIED FORCES.

     UNIT RELOCATED 450 MILES TO LOGISTICS BASE BRAVO IN THE VICINITY OF KING KHALID MILITARY CITY. UNIT ASSISTED IN THE MOVEMENT OF ELEMENTS OF THE 540TH QUARTERMASTER BATTALION TO THE SITE TO BE CALLED LOGISTICS BASE CHARLIE NEAR THE IRAQI BORDER IN THE VICINITY OF RAFFIA.

17 JAN 91

     UNIT RELOCATED 150 MILES TO LOGISTICS BASE CHARLIE IN THE VICINITY OF RAFHA, S.A. THE UNIT PROVIDED LINE HAUL OF BULK PETROLEUM, AMMUNITION, BULK CARGO AND UNIT EQUIPMENT IN SUPPORT OF ESTABLISHMENT OF LOGISTICS BASE CHARLIE. THE UNIT SUPPORTED ALLIED FORCES BY HAULING BULK FUEL TO THE FRENCH 6TH LIGHT DIVISION. THE UNIT TRANSPORTED FUEL TO THE AIRCRAFT REFUELING POINT AT RAFHA IN SUPPORT OF THE XVIII AIRBORNE CORPS COMMAND POST AND TASK FORCE 162, TO THE 3RD ARMORED CAVALRY REGIMENT, AND TO THE XVII AIRBORNE CORPS MARSHALLING AREA ALONG MSR TEXAS IN PREPARATION FOR THE GROUND OFFENSIVE.

THE SECTION REPLACED OVER FOUR HUNDRED TIRES AND CONDUCTED IN EXCESS OF ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE SERVICES IN FIELD CONDITIONS. THE MAINTENANCE SECTION PERFORMED EMERGENCY RECOVERY OF EQUIPMENT FROM HOSTILE ENEMY TERRITORY IN THE COUNTRY OF IRAQ.      BY THE END OF OPERATIONS DESERT SHIELD AND DESERT STORM THE 1450TH TRANSPORTATION COMPANY HAD TRANSPORTED 7,752,000 GALLONS OF FUEL, 385,000 GALLONS OF WATER AND 15,945 SHORT TONS OF ALL CLASSES OF SUPPLIES WITH A TOTAL 689,514 MISSION MILES IN SUPPORT OF THE XVIII AIRBORNE CORPS AND COALITION FORCES.
